Skin Protectant Calmoseptine® 4 oz. Tube Scented Ointment
Calmoseptine is a moisture barrier ointment that provides a physical moisture barrier to protect intact as well as injured skin from direct contact with feces, urine, and wound drainage. A skin protectant or skin barrier ointment is a product that temporarily protects injured or exposed skin surfaces from harmful irritants while providing relief to the area in question. This vital barrier prevents feces, urine, sweat, and other irritants from making contact with the already-irritated area. It locks in the moisture since a moist wound environment is ideal for optimal healing. Using Calmoseptine Ointment along with regular changes in disposable briefs can be a sure way to keep fragile skin from breakdown. In the care home setting, we use this product with every brief change.
Calmoseptine Ointment is an effective multi-purpose ointment that heals and protects skin for a number of applications. Calmoseptine was originally developed by a pharmacist 80 years ago for diaper rash, but users found it valuable in treating so much more. Any skin rash caused by moisture can find relief with Calmoseptine ointment such as skin damage from incontinence issues, bedsores, feeding tube leakage, wound drainage, minor cuts and burns, moisture in skin folds, hemorrhoids and anal fissures and partial thickness wounds. This Multi-Purpose Ointment provides instant soothing pain relief as it begins to cool and heal the damaged skin.
Calmoseptine acts as a "counter-irritant" and temporarily relieves the discomfort that is associated with rashes, eczema, insect bites, poison ivy, oak, and sumac. The menthol in Calmoseptine has been shown to increase circulation to an area that can help in healing and act as a mild antiseptic that can help prevent secondary bacterial or fungal infections from forming.
Cleanse skin gently with a mild skin cleanser. Pat dry or air dry. Apply a thin layer of Calmoseptine® Ointment to reddened or irritated skin two to four times daily, or after each incontinent episode or diaper change to promote comfort and long-lasting protection.
If a Calmoseptine® Ointment residue remains on irritated skin after gentle cleansing, it is recommended to leave the residue on the skin and apply an additional layer as needed until the skin is healed.
